Place: BAENA
The unique features of Easter Week in Baena, officially declared an event of National Tourist Interest, make it one of the most original, unusual celebrations to be found anywhere in Spain.
Its main differentiating element is the Judío, or Jew, a figure which has formed part of the religious processions here for several centuries. The judíos carry traditional metal drums gaudily decorated with feathers. They wear embroidered red jackets and embossed gold helmets with plumes and black or white horsehairs. Depending on the colours of these crests, they are known either as Coliblancos (Whitetails) or Colinegros (Blacktails), and they are organized into different religious brotherhoods.
