Cabra

Heritage

What to see

Over the centuries the different settlers who have inhabited Cabra have left behind them many vestiges of their stay here, and this heritage is safeguarded by the Museo Arqueológico (Archaeology Museum). Exhibits include items from the major sculptural complex in the Roman villa of Mitra.

From the Andalusí period, Cabra conserves its city walls and also the Castillo de Los Condes de Cabra (Castle of the Counts of Cabra), complete with its original Homage Tower.

Cabra possesses some of the most fascinating examples of Baroque architecture to be found anywhere in the province of Cordoba, including the parish church of La Asunción y Ángeles, known as the “Baroque mosque”, the churches of San Juan de Dios, Las Escolapias, San Juan Bautista and Las Angustias, the convent of Santo Domingo and the parish church of Los Remedios.

Other places worth visiting are the Museo de Historia Natural (Natural History Museum), located in a 17th century palace which was originally a secondary school and still conserves all its furnishings intact, the Centro de Interpretación del Tren de Aceite (Olive Oil Train Interpretation Centre), the Museo de Aceite “Molino Viejo” (“Molino Viejo” Olive Oil Museum) and the Circulo de Amistad (Friendship Group). There are also many parks and nature sites.
