Folklore and tradition

Carmona’s Spring Fair is held each year in the third week of May. This festival of joy and colour dates back to 1466, when King Henry IV of Castile granted the city the privilege of holding its own annual livestock fair.

Another deeprooted festive event is the Carnival, in which different types of musical groups (murgas, comparsas, chirigotas and quartets) take part in the Provincial Competition for Carnival Groups. The quality of many of these performances is remarkably high.
